Most cigars today are manufactured in Cuba, Honduras, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Jamaica, Brazil, and the Philippines. Cuban cigars, while illegal in the US, are generally considered to be the world’s finest. The quality from other countries has improved substantially in recent years and many are comparable to Cuban cigars.
What do look for when selecting a cigar? The first item to is overall construction and aroma of the cigar. A quality cigar will be smoothly rolled, but not be too tight. A full-flavored cigar should be consumed with or after a big meal where your stomach is full. If you are just starting off with cigars, a mild cigar like the Macanudo is a good start before jumping into the more complex flavor cigar varieties. Simply take a clean puff, letting the flavor flow around your mouth, and then blow out the smoke. (inhaling is not recommended)
Once you have picked out your cigar selection, it is important keep them humidified. A dry cigar may likely burn unevenly and too fast. A cigar that has been store in too high humidity will be tough to draw from. A humidor will maintain the flavor and construction your cigars for many months.
